Pyle, the author of more than 100 articles on art materials and techniques, covers the history of how color is used, how paints and colors are made, pigment characteristics, and how to choose and use modern artists' colors. With an engaging style and a vast variety of examples, he conveys the emotional impact of color, vital health and safety issues, and even the use of color in computer graphics. This is especially recommended for advanced artists in any medium. The beginner may benefit from the exercises and projects offered in Nita Leland's Exploring Color: How To Use and Control Color in Your Painting (LJ 12/98).
