Reviews

Our image of hunger is shaped by pictures of victims of harsh famines. These experiences are but the tip of a much more pervasive problem affecting as many as one billion people worldwide. This useful book provides an extensive analytical review and reference material for concerned citizens, policymakers, and students. Major causes of hunger are discussed; basic data are provided in reprinted tables and figures (some too small for easy use); and print and nonprint resources and organizational involvement are listed. A special feature is an annotated post-World War II chronology of anti-hunger initiatives. Unfortunately, the text relies too strongly on United Nations and World Bank data and methodologies, and too little reflects Third World analysis. Nonetheless, the book is recommended for both academic and large public libraries.
