The profiles offer quickly accessible information on female pioneers and achievers, women's roles in occupations and professions, and significant historical events, laws, issues, and organizations affecting women. It also features a well-written introduction, a useful chronology, and an extensive bibliography. The scope of this reference is limited to women's contributions in terms of paid work and more specifically to individuals, ethnic groups, and ideas that the authors view as important. Therefore, inclusion is based on subjective criteria (for example, Sandra Day O'Connor and Carla Anderson Hills are included, but Anita Hill and Hillary Rodham Clinton are not). In addition, certain entries, like the one for the Occupational Outlook Handbook , seem irrelevant. Still, this relatively inexpensive work adds to the growing body of literature on women's issues.
