Clearly presented statistical data and excerpts from the most influential wilderness laws (e.g., Endangered Species Act, Wilderness Act) are combined in one chapter. Also included is a well-organized listing of national parks, monuments, lakeshores, wildlife refuges, and seashores with accompanying brief description, address, and acreage of these federal lands. Finally, an annotated directory of federal agencies and private organizations and associations provides brief descriptions and addresses. Collection development librarians will find especially useful two annotated chapters devoted to identifying up-to-date print and nonprint resources. Much of this information can be found in the annual Complete Guide to America's National Parks (Fodor's) and in H. Steven Dashefsky's Environmental Literacy: Everything You Need To Know About Saving Our Planet (LJ 5/15/93), but combining all this information in one handbook results in a useful resource for high school, undergraduate, and public libraries.
