There are extensive notes about each object including technical details. The introduction presents an historical overview of the art and an essay discusses techniques and materials. From the preface: The purpose of this study is not to present a general survey of Islamic metalwork but to define the stylistic and technical characteristics of the objects in the collection of the Freer Gallery of Art and to show how they represent the traditions identified with certain periods and regions.
