Misty Bernall is Cassie's mother, and lives in Littleton, Colorado with her husband Brad and their son Chris.
During the Columbine High School massacre in April 1999, Cassie, Bernall's daughter, allegedly said yes when asked whether she believed in God and was promptly shot. The English edition of her story has sold over half a million copies and won the Christopher Award, given by a religious organization to literary efforts that affirm human values.
