The 80s were also a prime period for the wonderful Black, Hispanic and Asian versions of the BARBIE family. The costuming ranges from beach wear to wedding gowns. In almost every case, the different variations of each type of doll is shown and described-from Magic Curl to Super Star dolls, from Beach Blast to the Astronaut group, every collector will find a favorite in these smashing colorful photographs.

About the Author:

Margo started collecting BARBIE dolls in 1979. It all began while walking through a local drugstore with her mom, Maureen Rana, and seeing a Black BARBIE doll on the top shelf of the toy aisle. The doll's coif was like the style used on her 1961 Bubblecut BARBIE doll that she had when she was a little girl, and in fact still owns. The hairstyle reminded Margo so much of the one she had when she was only ten years old that her mother bought it for her. Margo thinks that her mom bought her this doll because she always felt guilty for not buying Margo her first BARBIE doll back in 1959. That same year, her mother bought her the next doll. It was a Hispanic BARBIE doll. Two dolls, back to back, both brunettes and wearing red, one of Margo's favorite colors. These two dolls were like an avalanche. Margo started haunting thrift stores, flea markets, yard sales, antique shops and doll shows. At the time she started collecting there was very little interest in BARBIE doll, her friends or her accessories. It was difficult to get information.
