Mark Thurston, Ph.D., has written over a dozen books based on the Edgar Cayce readings, including Discovering Your Soul's Purpose, Meditation and the Mind of Man, and Paradox of Power. A former executive director of the Association for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., Mark received his B.A. from the University of Texas, his M.A. from West Georgia College, and his Ph.D. from the Humanistic Psychology Institute. His current focus is on helping people to discover their mission in life.
Here is a book which goes beyond the fascination with psychic phenomena and delves into deeper aspects of the spiritual significant of ESP, such as:
- How does psychic ability work?
- Can psychic ability be developed through specific techniques?
- What is psychic ability telling us about ourselves?
- Is psychic ability in any way related to our search for God?
In answer to these questions, Part I of this book presents six currently popular theories explaining ESP and investigates and expands each in light of the Edgar Cayce readings. Part II outlines specific steps recommended in the Cayce readings that can be taken to develop extrasensory perception, such as working with dreams, setting ideals, adjusting the diet, and learning to meditate.
"Perhaps as much as any other current topic, ESP is leading people to consider the spiritual side of life. Almost everyone has heard of some dramatic instance of mind-to-mind communication or observed an accurate prediction of future events. Even people who admit that they believe in ESP are often startled by these paranormal incidents. Psychic experiences stand out as demonstrations that reality isn't what we often think it is. The very fact that ESP exists is a challenge to us. It forces us to consider the possibility that our minds and our spirits are far greater than we commonly think. However, if properly understood, psychic ability is not for the curiosity seeker; it is for the responsible, sensitive individual who is willing to work at self-discovery." (from the Introduction)
