From the Back Cover

Experiments in Practical Spirituality is a book for individuals who are on a spiritual journey. You will find nearly one hundred separate experiments in this book, designed to be read and applied individually. The reading will take only about five minutes. The applying may take a day for some experiments and several days or more for others. Each one will depend on how long you think you need to work with it before moving on to the next one.

We need to test spiritual principles -- whether from the Bible, the Cayce readings, or any spiritual teaching -- in daily, practical application. If we discover that a principle works and that it is applicable, then it is worth believing.

This book is based on the premise that we can understand deeply only a few new thoughts at a time -- not because of intellectual limitations, but because we have to live and apply something before we really know it.

In time you will find yourself developing new tools for joyful living. As you grow confidence using these principles, your spiritual journey will gain added dimensions and your personal search for God will grow ever more rewarding.

An especially difficult challenge presented to us by life is how to respond to actions or events designed to harm us. The variety of choices is often confusing, made all the more so because historically so-called spiritual people have demonstrated reactions ranging from pacifism to "holy war." ... Experiment. Select a resentment you have been holding for something which another person said or did to you. What aspect of your self-image was undermined or called into question by what the person did? As a tool to make forgiveness easier and more natural, do some specific thing to strengthen that particular part of your self-image. (from Chapter 7)
