From School Library Journal:
The uncommon habits of the common housefly are examined in this lucid introduction. The text describes the insect's physical and behavioral characteristics, natural enemies, ecological importance, and some special characteristics of six other species of true flies (e.g. hoverflies, blowflies, tsetse flies). Concisely written and well organized, The Housefly is full of illuminating detail on the nature of the insect. Sharply detailed color photos, most of which are extreme close-ups, accompany the text on every page. The photographs are of excellent quality; however, the lack of captions creates some unnecessary confusion, particularly when different fly species are depicted--not all are identified in the text. Also, the rate of magnification is not given, and most of the photos are many times the insect's actual size. O'Toole's Discovering Flies (Bookwright, 1987) surveys a wide variety of true fly species and only includes a brief section on the housefly. The Fischer-Nagels have once again produced a useful addition to most natural-history sections. --Karey Wehner, San Francisco Public Library
