Grade 4-6 In these large format nature books the authors, both biologists, detail their subjects' life cycles in clear direct prose and excellent color photographs. Print is large and well spaced; photographs on each page extend the text. Important words are printed in boldface type, with many (although not all) defined in the glossary at the back. . . .White Stork has an index; . . .Honeybee, surprisingly, does not. . . .Honeybee describes life within the hive. It is more detailed book, and on a higher reading level, than Bees and Wasps (Gloucester, 1981; o.p.) and better organized than Oxford Scientific Films' Bees and Honey (Putnam, 1977; o.p.). . . .White Stork tells of the storks' long, dangerous annual journey from their winter home in Africa to nesting places in Europe. The endangered state of these storks is emphasized. The last few pages mention other species of stork, including the American wood stork. The wealth of information provided should make both of these books useful for school reports, while the quality of the photographs increases their appeal for casual readers. Ruth S.
