Reviews

Grade 2-4?Two titles that give children the opportunity for astronomical exploration in a meaningful way. The texts consist of a series of questions followed by brief answers. The illustrations, a mix of full-color photographs and cartoons, are an integral part of the explanations. Some of the cartoons are superimposed on the photographs, effectively drawing attention to details. Can You Catch a Falling Star? explores the title question, and examines what happens when a meteorite hits the ground and the best time to look for meteor showers. Where's the Big Dipper? defines key terms and explains the importance of the Big Dipper. Diagrams and boxed text present related information without detracting from the directness of the answer to a question. These books are excellent introductions to topics that youngsters are curious about. The lively format will sustain their interest and encourage further exploration and observations. Accurate scientific information presented in an exceptionally clear and engaging manner.?Carolyn Angus, The Claremont Graduate School, CA
