This fourth edition features expanded treatment of theory and principles to provide a foundation for addressing some of the questions that arise when no standard or regulation exists. There is a new chapter on increased safety and ignition by optical sources, as well as more practical examples of applying principles in real situations, including applications beyond North America. Discussion of CEN-ELEC standards is now distributed throughout the book according to subject matter. The chapter on flame arresters has been deleted from this edition.
