About the Author
Ronald Ratcliffe is a performer on both modern and historic keyboard instruments and has written extensively about these instruments. He is a music professor at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo.
Henry Z. Steinway -- a great-grandson of the founder -- served as president of Steinway & Sons from 1955 to 1972 and remains a consultant to the firm.
