About the Author

John Jakle is a professor of both geography and landscape architecture at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Keith Sculle is the Head of Research and Education for the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency and an adjunct professor of history at the University of Illinois at Springfield. Together they have co-authored four books on the history of the American roadside, The Gas Station in America, The Motel in America (with Jefferson S. Rogers), Fast Food: Roadside Restaurants in the Automobile Age, and the forthcoming Lots of Parking: Land Use in a Car Culture.
