Chile has produced an impressive body of poetry during this century, including the work of Nobel laureates Gabriela Mistral and Pablo Neruda. Out of this tradition come the poets represented in this anthology: 18 men and two women, all writers of the "New Chilean Poetry" generation that burst upon Chile's literary scene in the mid-1960s. Historyits interpretation and its influence on Chilean lifepreoccupies most of these writers, from Raul Zarita's utopian vision to Clemente Riedemann's exploration of Spanish and German legacies.
