About the Author:
Novelist, playwright, short-story writer, and Oscar-nominated screenwriter Bruce Jay Friedman was born in New York City. Friedman published his first novel "Stern" in 1962 and established himself as a writer and playwright, most famously known for his off-Broadway hit "Steambath" (1973) (TV) and his 1978 novel "The Lonely Guy's Book of Life". In addition to short stories and plays, Friedman also has published another seven novels, and has written numerous screenplays, including the Oscar-nominated "Splash" (1984). He resides in New York City with his second wife, educater Patricia J. O'Donohue.
From AudioFile:
This is the first novel by the author of numerous darkly humorous stories and plays of contemporary life--notably "Steambath," which was made into a cable TV series, and the screenplay for SPLASH. The title character of this opus is a classic anxiety-ridden East Coast Jewish male going through the usual crises as son, husband, and ulcer-ridden father. Some say Phillip Roth does it better; some say Roth just does it differently. Judge for yourself with this cassette, nicely, albeit frantically, read by Adam Grupper. Aside from trying a little too hard, Grupper has the milieu, tone, and characters down cold. An interview with the author precedes and ends the tape. JERO BOOKS AND TEMPLET CO.
(SANTA MONICA, CA, U.S.A.)

Book Description Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Reissued Edition. Reissued Edition (1983.) Hardcover with dust jacket. 8vo with 191 pages. Signed to film producer Martin Ransohoff on front free end paper, "For Joan & Marty with love Bruce J. Friedman." The book is in very good condition. Interior is clean and tight. The dust jacket is in good condition with some shelf wear and fading to spine. Martin Ransohoff (1927-2017) was an American film and television producer. His early TV successes (Beverly Hillbillies and Mr. Ed) enabled him to produce movies like The Americanization of Emily, The Sandpiper, The Cincinnati Kid, The Fearless Vampire Killers, Ice Station Zebra, Castle Keep, Catch-22, Silver Streak, and Jagged Edge among others. Friedman (1930-2020) once got into a quarrel with fellow writer Norman Mailer at the latter's house party. It turned physical when Mailer head butted him and Mailer's wife egged him on to "kill the bastard." Although Friedman eventually prevailed in the fistfight, he had to receive a tetanus shot after Mailer bit him in the neck. Brown spine/white text. #031555 Size: 8vo. Signed. Fiction.
