From Publishers Weekly:
The author is John Hadley Nicanor Hemingway, firstborn son of the man who made the surname known throughout the world. The title refers to his lifelong enthusiasm for a pastime identified with his father as well. Jack Hemingway is a well known outdoorsman and has written extensively for outdoor magazines. His book is valuable in that regard alone. His recounting of his war experience as an OSS officer working with the French underground is fascinating on two counts: because he, like so many others in that time was only a college student, not even out of his sophomore year; and because, set against his father's values and preoccupations, he measured up, and that was important for him. Ultimately, it is his relationship to that man internationally celebrated as "Papa," that makes this autobiography interesting and it is laced throughout with incident and anecdote about his father.

From Library Journal:
"Misadventures" is the right word for this narrrative by the oldest son of Ernest Hemingway, for almost everything Jack ventures here misses. There is little sense of the father, although Jack's affection for him is insisted upon; there is little insight into the privileged people who surround father and son alike, although Jack drops their names liberally; and there is little suggestion of the motives that shape Jack's own life, although some of his obsessions are obvious. He loves to catch fish and women. Jack's tale is told with smug complacency; the most vivid events, treated as equally important, are World War II and trout fishing. Apparently, when one is the son of a literary titan, it is hard to have a balanced view of life. Still, Hemingway buffs and fishing enthusiasts may enjoy these murky waters.
