Reviews

With separate chapters on how to read a racing form, what to watch for during the race, the basics of betting, weight and other factors, and how to handicap, the first half of this book is too general to be helpful to the novice and too simplistic for the experienced bettor. Newspaperman Bolus doesn't fully explain place and show betting, and sees nothing wrong with betting your birthday as a handicapping strategy. The second half contains capsule biographies of great active jockeys and trainers, the nine best racetracks in America, ten great races, award winners, a glossary, and breeding terms. The last three are the most valuable for reference. Not recommended as a trackside guide.
