The United States Golf Association is extremely picky about the courses it chooses to host its national championship. They must provide a hard, but fair, test that rewards overall golfing excellence. Their historical traditions are rich, and their designs stunning. John Steinbreeder provides a photo-laced, anecdotally fertile guide to each of the nearly 50 layouts--from Pebble Beach to Baltusrol--that have caused more than a few competitors to break a brassie or two in sheer frustration since the first Open teed off in Newport, Rhode Island, more than 100 years ago.
About the Author:
Author of six books (including Golf for Dummies and Hockey for Dummies ), John Steinbreder is a senior writer for Golfweek Magazine. He has won six awards from the Golf Writers Association of America, and is a contributing editor to Departures, Met Golfer, and Sporting Classics magazines. He lives in Easton, Connecticut.
