About the Author:

Elisabeth Evans Wray has taught history at the University of Richmond for over twenty years. SHe has developed new courses on various aspects of Virginia, Southern, and United States history. She has also developed and taught courses in women's history and helped developed a women's studies program. She is a member of the Virginia Consortium of Social Studies Specialists and College Educators, the American Historical Association, the Southern Association For Women Historians, and the Southern Historical Association. Her work has appeared in the Virginia Magazine of History and Biography. Ms. Wray has participated in curriculum planning for public schools, and serves on the Teacher's Advisory Board of the Virginia Historical Society.
