1973 reprint of a brochure originally published circa 1926 detailing the over 60 miles of freight tunnels under the Loop that were then being used to ship merchandise, packages, coal (for heating) and cinders. The booklet describes the electric railway system in place and makes a strong argument that street traffic could be greatly reduced if the tunnels were more utilized. Illustrated with black and white photos and two fold-out maps showing the tunnel locations. Eventually these tunnels were abandoned and forgotten until the Great Leak of 1992 when one of them was damaged and water and mud flooded in, causing billions of dollars worth of damage. 32 pages.
