An introduction to The Book of Common Prayer and its use in corporate worship.

The most distinctive thing about the Episcopal Church is the liturgical worship in The Book of Common Prayer. These pages introduce the prayer book as the primary source for teaching Episcopalians and others about the Episcopal Church.
The Liturgy of the Word begins with the ancient greeting, "The Lord be with you," again bringing the congregation into dialogue with the presiding minister, and the scripture readings which follow. On Sundays and major holy days three readings are provided. On weekdays this has varied throughout Christian history but the gospel has always held the place of honor as the final reading.
