Synopsis
Picking up where the captivating historical romance Stonehaven left off, Everlasting brings readers face to face once more with a courageous, charming-and very Irish-heroine: the raven-haired Sheridan O'Brian. Once more, Sheridan finds herself in the throes of adventure as she embarks upon a quest to find her missing twin, Shamus. In 1855 San Francisco, Sheridan O'Brian steps off the steam tender from Ireland in search of her twin brother, Shamus, who has disappeared during the hectic California gold rush days. To aid her in her search, Sheridan has hired handsome Marcus Jade, a newspaper editor masquerading as a detective. As O'Brian and Jade travel from San Francisco into the California mining country to find Shamus, they meet up with an array of criminals intent upon preventing them from achieving their goals. The couple's journey, which ends in the town of Everlasting, is a kind of romantic pilgrim's progress extolling the goodness of God's providence. Unfortunately, Maclean's (Stonehaven, Palisades, 1995) overt symbolism and simplistic language mar the novel. Not a necessary purchase.
