About the Author
Steven J. Simmons is the father of five children ages four to thirteen. A graduate of Cornell University and Harvard Law School, he is the author of The Fairness Doctrine and the Media. He has been a professor of law and government at the University of California, a White House aide on domestic policy, and a leader in the cable television industry. Steve has been reading children's books to school classes for over a decade. Now an avid writer of his own books, he gets his inspiration from the stories he tells his children.

Ages 4^-8. Percy, a blue pigeon wearing a jaunty red neckerchief, flies around the tourist sites of London each day. He goes for a ride on the hands of the clock on Big Ben, sits on a lion in Trafalgar Square, and communes each day with a cheerful, eccentric lady named Matilda. When two boys become stranded on an island in a park lake, Percy tries to help them by delivering a message describing their plight. Unfortunately, he has a hard time getting anyone to notice the note he is carrying. Clearly written by an American tourist rather than a British writer, this is sweetly old-fashioned both in words and in watercolors and will make an acceptable additional purchase. Susan Dove Lempke
