Synopsis
This volume comprehensively reviews laboratory and clinical research on the structure and function of knee ligaments, the mechanics and kinematics of the knee joint, and the response of ligaments to injury and highlights recent advances in ligament reconstruction surgery and postoperative care. In the opening section, Dr. Daniel describes his approach to knee ligament surgery and patient management. This is followed by extensive studies on the anatomy, structure, chemistry, and physiology of ligaments; their material and structural properties; their sensory function; the ways in which they contribute to the stability of the knee joint; and the ability of muscles to compensate for loss of ligament function. A major portion of the book details in vivo experiments on ligament injury and repair, including autograft remodeling. The final section presents clinical studies on the natural history of the ligament-injured knee and the complications of ligament surgery and describes new techniques for clinical measurement of knee stability.
