Highlights of the Second Edition include a new section on cytokines. Another new section, on responses to inflammation, examines wound healing, angiogenesis, and heat shock proteins. The section on clinical syndromes features a new chapter on atherogenesis, an in-depth discussion of asbestosis as a model of chronic inflammation inducing neoplasia, and timely information on the effects of viruses on phagocyte function. Chapters that appeared in the First Edition have been extensively revised, in many cases with the collaboration of new contributing authors.
