Charles Stein belongs to a school of visionaries headed by Parmenides. These texts recall us to a work in which philosophy and poetry equally serve the quest for the knowledge our enlightenment requires. Here is thought that sings. This book should be read once for the pleasure, then it will repay prolonged and serious study. --Don Byrd
Stein is a poet with all the means of his craft at hand. Seldom confessional, the work overhears and remembers the mumbled self-awarenesses of dream, and sets them in form. I find him one of the smartest men of his generation, and one of its most exemplary poets. --Robert Kelly
