About the Author

Carol A. Jones served as a substitute teacher at all grade and subject levels for four years in Pasco County, Fla., prior to becoming a full-time Language Arts instructor. Her sound advice, in this edition, is not only based on extensive personal experience, but on feedback from all over the country from users of earlier editions of her book. That makes this Fourth Edition an even more useful and necessary aid for substitute teachers.

Review

Lifesaver: "I have been working as a substitute teacher for four years. I have looked all over for a book that would help me as a substitute teacher. This book does the job. It offers lots of activities I can use if the plan the teacher left does not work - or if the VCR is broken! It also gave me great advice for how to work with the students. There are helpful forms to use - like seating plans and emergency plans. It is very comprehensive and is great for substitutes at any grade level."
