Born in a paper mill town in Maine's western foothills, Muskie was one of six children of a Polish immigrant and a Polish-American mother whose English was worse than her husband's. Commemorating the centenary of his birth, this biography of Ed Muskie through his two terms as Maine's governor tells how the son of an immigrant tailor grew up to become one of the most consequential politicians in American history.

About the Author
Jim Witherell is a master Maine Guide and the creator of hiking maps for Acadia National Park and Baxter State Park. Also an avid cyclist, he is the author of Bicycle History (McGann) and working on a book about the Tour De France. He also wrote L. L. Bean: The Man and His Company and Ed Muskie: Made in Maine.He lives in Lewiston, Maine.
