About the Author
Robert J. Wagman is an investigative reporter and Washington columnist for the Newspaper Enterprise Association. He began his career as a political reporter in 1968 covering the Nixon and Humphrey campaigns. In addition to his experience as a reporter, he has served as the assistant to the Dean at St. Louis University School of Law. He has been a field producer for "CBS Evening News" and an investigator/producer for "60 Minutes." He is the author of nine books, including The First Amendment Book, and The World Almanac of U.S. Politics.

It's been argued that one can never know too much about the U.S. Supreme Court and how it conducts its important legal and political business. Assuming the truth of that premise, this new volume is a fine addition to the growing literature on our highest court. In essence, Wagman has provided an informative, readable guide for the lay reader who wishes to learn more about the Court but doesn't know where to go. He includes a history of the court, profiles every justice, discusses the 100 most significant decisions, and analyzes the direction of the current court. This self-described "citizen's guide" to the court and its business makes our least visible branch much more accessible than before. For anyone who wishes "to draw near" to the Court, this work is a worthy, able assistant. Especially recommended for public libraries and a nonscholarly audience.
