Reviews
Grade 5 Up-- A gorgeous picture book with luminous paintings. It is a boy's story of capture, possession, and release, told with a spare text. "Once there was a boy who was surprised by a butterfly. He captured the butterfly, and then . . . he set it free. And forever and ever the butterfly was his very own." Yoshi treats the abstract concept of freedom with such a spare, light touch that it is possibly beyond the reach of primary-grade children. For them, Byrd Baylor's Hawk, I'm Your Brother (Scribners, 1976) is superb. Here, the butterflies and landscape paintings are stunning, vibrant, fluid, and energetic, creating an incredibly beautiful book for older children and adults. --Jacqueline Elsner, Athens Regional Lib . , GA-
