About the Author:
Walid Khalidi was born in Jerusalem and graduated from London and Oxford Universities. He has taught at Oxford, the American University of Beirut and Harvard. Since 1963, he has been the General Secretary of the Institute for Palestine Studies, and from 1982 to 1997 was Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies, Harvard. Khalidi is a Fellow of The American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a co-founder of The Royal Scientific Society, Amman, and has been an advisor to the Iraqi UN delegation (1967), the Secretary-General of the Arab League (1983-1984), and the Jordanian-Palestinian delegation at the Madrid Peace Conference. Khalidi is an internationally recognized scholar on the Palestine problem and the Arab-Israeli conflict, and has written extensively in Arabic and English on these subjects.

His works include: Before Their Diaspora (1984, 1991), All That Remains (1992) and Palestine Reborn (1992), and several articles in Foreign Affairs, the New York Times and the Boston Globe. He is a recipient of the Jerusalem Prize for 1998 from the Palestine National Authority. He has been a U.S. citizen since 1990.
