This book is designed so that the teacher with no experience can immediately begin teaching creative drama in the intermediate grades. It contains all the methodology, all the content, all the lesson components necessary to teach several sequences of creative drama in the three intermediate grades. There are two basic components-text and activities. The text explains methods and theories of teaching creative drama; the activities comprise the practical core of the book. Each activity is a self-contained 'recipe' for a creative drama event and includes: The educational objective for the activity, A step-by-step guide on how to conduct the activity, Complete subject matter of the event-for example, if the activity is to be a game, full instructions for the game are provided. If the subject is a story, even a well-known story, the full story is provided (A teacher does not have to rely on memory or refer to other sources to conduct any activity) and Follow-up questions and discussion topics. At all stages the teacher can enter the classroom with the confidence that unless special equipment such as costumes, music, or props is desired, the book contains all the components necessary to conduct the activity he or she has planned for the day's lesson.

About the Author:
Dr. Nellie McCaslin is the premiere American educator in children's theatre and creative drama. Her book, Creative Drama in the Classroom, now in its fifth edition, has been the standard text in creative drama for nearly two decades. It has been the guide and handbook for many thousands of college students and elementary and secondary school teachers throughout the world. Creative Drama in the Intermediate Grades was adapted from Creative Drama in the Classroom.
Review:
Nellie McCaslin's books have both a timely and a timeless quality. As individual states mandate drama in the classroom, they serve as an immediate resource for teachers. But at the same time, they speak of universals, reminding us of the need for the classroom to be a world of childhood. --Robert Clausen, Professor of Education, New York University
