Retired FBI agent Ben Connars obsesses over an unsolved murder case from 1959. At that time, an unknown intruder killed an agent in the Los Angeles Bureau and stole blueprints for an atomic bomb. Connars still hunts clues, especially after the dead man's grandson begins drawing things (in a seizure-like trance) that his murdered grandfather witnessed. Maybe, with the aid of a genetic psychologist, the boy will reveal his grandfather's killer and bring closure for Connars. The tangled plot of this first novel shuffles between past and present, but the prose remains smooth and capable. For most collections.
