Carole S. Rhodes is a professor of Literacy Education and Chair of the Department of Literacy and Leadership at Adelphi University, New York, where beside teaching graduate and undergraduate courses dealing with reading, writing and children’s literature, she oversees the Center for Literacy, which serves children and families in several locations. A consultant to many school districts, where she works with administrators, teachers, children and their families, Carole is also a frequent speaker to parents’ groups, where her "reality-based, humorous and highly informative" talks draw on her experience as both reading specialist and parent. Carole, her husband and their children live in New York.
Lenore H. Ringler is a professor emerita of New York University, where she taught beginning and experienced teachers how to design strategies for teaching reading and writing to children, coordinated the work of the Center for Reading Studies, and worked with parents and children as part of a tutoring program. A Past President of the National Reading Conference, Lenore is widely consulted by school districts on the implementation of a collaborative approach to designing and implementing change in the area of reading and writing, and has worked to strengthen school-home relations through parent workshops. As co-author of (title in italic, please) Born to Learn: Developing a Child’s Reading and Writing, Lenore drew on her own experience as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, parent and grandparent. Lenore now lives in San Diego with her husband and two cats, and devotes her time to family, traveling and writing.
