Synopsis
This book brings together more than ninety of Sapp's best paintings, one-third in full color and many accompanied by his own words. the introduction from John Anson Warner and Thecla Bradshaw provides a rich backdrop that tells much of Sapp's life, his people's history and his developing success as a painter. Sapp is a Saskatchewan Cree who in a few short years became recognized internationally as one of the finest Indian painters working today. The joy of his work is its power to evoke haunting memories of a simpler time in almost everyone. Yet it is quite specifically a portrait of his people as they once lived: coping with the harshness of a prairie winter; celebrating the changing seasons; cultivating their land, raising cattle and hunting.
