About the Author:
Welwyn Wilton Katz is the author of many award-winning books for children and young adults, including the critically acclaimed False Face (Winner of the International Children's Fiction Contest, the Max and Greta Ebel Award), The Third Magic (Winner of the Governor General's Award). She has also won the prestigious Vicky Metcalf Award celebrating her books and her life as a writer for children and young adults. Welwyn and her husband live in Ontario, Canada, with their cat Chloe, who rightly believes she is the focus of their lives.

Readers were either very enthusiastic or completely negative about this story, but the former opinion dominated (80% or more of the readers), much to the surprise of the children who were almost unanimous in saying they would never have selected the book had it not been assigned to them. The plot was described as 'mysterious', 'exciting', and 'adventurous.' It places realistic characters in a magical environment which readers enjoyed visiting in their imaginations.
