Comprising the results of a long-term incident management research project at the Virginia Tech Center for Transportation Research, this volume makes the study's findings available to other researchers of incident management research. Most of the chapters contain portions of the models and descriptions of the Wide-Area Incident Management Support System (WAIMSS) software. Chapters include a review of incident management systems; incident detection; incident duration and delay prediction; incident response; traffic diversion for real-time traffic management during incidents; and online traffic control.
