About the Author
Milly Howard is both a writer and a teacher; she particularly enjoys working with children in writing classes and in her Young Author's Club. She has written numerous short stories and several novels for children.
Mrs. Howard's family often vacations in Florida, sometimes on an island very much like the one that Jimmy visits. During their boat trips up the St. Johns River, they have to watch out for manatees so that the boat's propellers do not injure them. Her fascination with the large, placid sea creatures has led her to include them in this book.
