As the title indicates, the purpose of this thesis is to take the suggestion of James Barr in his 1968 epoch-making book, Comparative Philology and the Text of the Old Testament, both explicit and implicity, and apply them to a selected corpus of literature in an attempt to test them as systematically as possible. The selected section of literature of the Book of Job, chosen because of the many philological riddles which still taunt each new exegete who thinks he can mark trails where others have failed.
