Reviews
Szela, a former Hallmark associate, has produced an admirable update to her 1987 handbook. Though much of her advice seems self-evident (for example, keeping current on recent trends), she presents some interesting tips and plenty of encouragement for the beginner. Interviews with practicing artists and writers enhance the book's overall appeal. Szela does offer a few step-by-step descriptions of how to produce an image, but her book is better at showing completed samples and making suggestions rather than describing precisely how to make cards. Though it is important to note that 90 percent of greeting cards are purchased by women, it nearly becomes Szela's central theme. Recommended for public libraries that do not own the first edition.
