Colonel Jo B. Rusin joined the Women's Army Corps in 1969 and witnessed the major changes in opportunities for women in the military over the next 25 years. She became one of the first women to command a mixed gender company and later in her career,Colonel Rusin gained the distinction of being the army's most senior woman commander in a wartime theater of operation as she commanded a brigade in the Persian Gulf in 1991 in the First Gulf War. Now retired from the Army, Colonel Rusin now lives with her husband Johnny in suburban Atlanta, Georgia.
Colonel Jo B. Rusin, U.S. Army (Ret.), knows what it means to be a pioneer. When she commanded a brigade during Desert Storm, she became the most senior woman ever to have led in battle. Rusin originally intended her book, Move to the Front: A Guide to Success for the Working Woman, to provide guidance to other women soldiers, but she knew its message would be valuable for women in the battlefield of the workplace, and indeed it is. Following her first piece of advice "don't be afraid" Rusin guides the reader through the straight and narrow of the martial trenches, though each of her military examples illustrates what women can do to succeed in any job anywhere.
