This reprint volume belongs to a series that is part of the Treatise of Petroleum Geology. The Treatise was developed to serve as a state-of-the-art textbook in petroleum geology directed, not at the student, but at the practicing petroleum geologist. The project to put together one textbook gradually evolved into a series of three different publications: The Reprint Series, the Atlas of Oil and Gas Fields, and the Handbook of Petroleum Geology. The Reprint Series provides previously published landmark literature and the selected papers complement the chapters in the Handbook. Papers were selected on the basis of usefulness in petroleum exploration and development. The topic of Geochemistry is divided into four sections: (1) Petroleum Formation, (2) Source Rock Evaluation, (3) Migration, and (4) Surface Geochemistry.
