Synopsis
When Miss Renee's mice learn that she is going to an exhibition and sale of dollhouse miniatures, they pester and pester until Miss Renee finally agrees to bring them along - but only after they promise to behave themselves. "Even sensible people can be scared of mice," explains Miss Renee, "and if people are scared, they won't buy any of my little tables or chairs or rugs." She instructs the mice to stay perfectly still so they will appear to be toy mice sitting on the tiny furniture in her miniature houses. At the show, everything goes splendidly at first, but then Miss Renee realizes that the adorable "toy" mice are attracting all the attention, and nobody is buying her miniatures. Feeling miffed, she refuses to share her peanut butter sandwich with the mice, and when her wee assistants start behaving like normal, hungry, live mice, the result is chaos!

About the Author
Elizabeth Stokes Hoffman is a children's book author who lives in Vermont. Dawn Peterson ia an artist and designer who lives in Falmouth, Maine.

Kindergarten-Grade 2--In this follow-up to Miss Renée's Mice(Down East, 2001), Hoffman has spun another amusing tale. Here, the mice accompany the eccentric miniature maker to a dollhouse exhibition in Portland, ME. At first Miss Renée is reluctant to take them along, but relents when she recalls how they helped her to build some of her tiny furniture. She tells them they must pretend to be toy mice, so her customers will not be scared away. Rather than being afraid, the customers are so enchanted by the "toy" mice that they are more interested in buying them than the miniatures. By lunchtime, Miss Renée is fed up with all the attention that they are receiving and spitefully refuses to share her peanut-butter sandwich. The little creatures, overwhelmed by hunger, leap from their chairs and converge on a waiter who is crossing the room with a tray of delectable desserts, causing pandemonium in the exhibition hall. In the end, a wealthy woman who is hiding her own pet mice in the pockets of her coat offers to buy all of Miss Renée's merchandise and invites her to tea in the hotel dining room, where the two new friends and the rodents enjoy a delicious feast. Peterson's illustrations delightfully capture the old-fashioned feeling of the New England setting and portray the mice with appealing detail. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Dawn Peterson (illustrator). 1st Edition. First Edition (Number Line to 1). Note that the copyright page is the last page. I didn't see another copy of this book for sale on the Internet that was identified as a first edition. Moreover, the book is flat-signed on the title page by both the author and illustrator. No other copy of this book for sale on the Internet is signed by either the author or the illustrator. You can see the covers of the book in the photos. They are exceptionally clean. I don't see any soiling at all. There is very little wear, a tiny closed tear at the front top edge. The edges and corners are otherwise in excellent shape. There is a tiny crease on the front side of the spine just off the top edge, and a similar tiny crease on the front side of the spine just off the bottom edge, both quite minor. The book is very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The inside covers and end papers are a light blue. They are all very clean. The pages are in excellent condition. They are exceptionally clean. I'm not finding any soiling. I'm not seeing any creasing. There are no markings. No attachments of any kind. And the signatures of the author and illustrator represent the only writing to be found anywhere in the book. There are color illustrations on every single page, quite charming ones. They are all in excellent condition. The covers of the dust jacket are identical with the covers of the book. Finding this book with its dust jacket is no easy task. Take a look around. The dust jacket is exceptionally clean. It has very little wear, a little crinkling at the bottom edge of the spine and just adjacent on the front cover. There's also a very tiny scuff at the bottom edge of the spine. I don't see any tears. The flaps are in excellent shape, no tears, no soiling. There is a tiny crinkle or two at the top edge of the front flap. The jacket is not priced or clipped. The price is printed near the bottom of the rear cover of the book.
