Decter's well-researched text brings Roerich to life by allowing us to rediscover this "forgotten renaissance man" whose belief in the harmonious integration of life and art led him to four continents and the promotion of an international treaty, the Roerich Peace Pact, which earned him a nomination for a Nobel Peace Prize in 1929. This pact stresses the importance of protecting the world's cultural legacy during war. The illustrations cover Roerich's entire career, from Slavic and mystic subjects to his notable Himalayan landscapes and spiritual themes.
