But the baby is born too early and dies. The family grieves together, and Morgan suggests that they say a special goodbye to Marissa, who is now being cared for by God in heaven. They invite friends and neighbors to a memorial service and release balloons with messages tied to them. This ceremony is comforting, but they will always miss the child, who remains a part of their family. The story is written simply and clearly, with a strong emphasis on Christian hope, using reunion with loved ones after death as a vehicle to help children manage bereavement. Psychological suggestions are included in an afterword to help adults deal with children in grief situations. The full-page illustrations are minimal, flat, black-and-white drawings.
