About the Author
London-born David Lester, Ph.D., received degrees from Brandeis University (United States) in psychology and from Cambridge University (United Kingdom) in social and political science.
Emigrating to the United States in 1964, Dr. Lester directed research at a suicide prevention service in Buffalo, New York. Since 1971, he has been a professor of psychology at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. Dr. Lester has written and edited numerous books and articles on topics concerned with death and dying. He has served as president of the International Association for the Prevention of Suicide and was the 1997 recipient of the Louis I. Dublin Award from the American Association of Suicidology for his distinguished contributions to the field of suicide prevention as evidenced by leadership, devotion, and creativity.
