Synopsis

The story continues in Book II, Amanda's New Life, recording her marriage, motherhood, Texas statehood, incidents of family life, difficulties of acquiring supplies, and Amanda's ardent need to be always a lady, and a well-dressed one at that. Fashion changes are more rapid in Book III due to the time span covered, 1863-1890, as well as the greater availability of fashion news.Journal entries, based on various incidents recorded by women who pioneered in Texas, have been the result of extensive research by a long-time museum costume curator. Illustrations, artistically and faithfully rendered by a professionally trained fashion illustrator, not only mirror authentic museum originals, but are so well executed as to be individual works of art.Included in this enlarged volume of the series is a glossary of unfamiliar and obsolete terms that have appeared in all three series. About the Author
For three decades Betty J. Mills served as curator of costume and textiles at the Museum of Texas Tech University.In addition to the Amanda Series, Lynette C. Ross has illustrated many of the paper doll volumes published by Texas Tech University Press.
