Unlucky Lucky Tales contains three books of Grandbois's prose poetry: Unlucky Lucky Days, Unlucky Lucky People, and Unlucky Lucky Books. Like Zen koans, these brief pieces playfully short-circuit the brain to bypass normal thought and open the mind to undiscovered worlds of perception. As the human organism responds inexplicably to music, to particular combination of notes of varying pitches and durations and the intervals of silence between them, so too it responds in profound yet ultimately incomprehensible ways to the absurd, twisted language of Grandbois's poetry.

This illustrated collection contains a reprint of most of Unlucky Lucky Days plus two new books: Unlucky Lucky People and Unlucky Lucky Books. We chose to put them all together because sections and individual poems contain references to one another as well as other more elusive and intricate intertwinings.
Daniel Grandbois is the author of the Indie Next Notable Book and Believer Book Award Reader Survey Selection Unlucky Lucky Days (BOA Editions, 2008); the art novel The Hermaphrodite: An Hallucinated Memoir (Green Integer, 2010), illustrated by Alfredo Benavidez Bedoya (Argentina); and the omnibus Unlucky Lucky Tales (Texas Tech University Press, 2012), illustrated by Fidel Sclavo (Uruguay). His literary body of work often includes collaborations across the Americas, showcasing extraordinary visual artists of Latin America. Daniel holds an MFA in poetry from Bennington College, lives in Colorado and has played in three of the pioneering bands of "The Denver Sound:" Slim Cessna's Auto Club, Tarantella, and Munly. He tours extensively in North America and Europe with Slim Cessna's Auto Club.
